Remember this moment: An almost nightly occurrence right now, you escape your room and come see us a couple times before you finally fall asleep. Really, it's quite adorable and I know we're probably failing in the eyes of some parenting book out there by not disciplining you more for it. You come in to our bedroom where we're usually watching one last episode of whatever is on HGTV or Master Chef and say "Hi!" so nonchalantly, it's impossible to be mad. Then you climb into our bed and as I tell you it's time to go back to your bed you simply state, "no, I watchin the show." Once I convince you to come back to your bed with me, usually by telling you I'll turn your "Scout Mikskit" (Scout bedtime music) on again, you find every excuse to keep me there. "I need my water. I need my Lightning McQueen. I need my blue blankie." All of which are normally already in bed with you.
Last night was a bit different. Daddy was tired, so he fell asleep early, and I worked on my computer quietly in the dark. The only light coming from my computer screen. Then I heard your little footsteps coming through the kitchen to the office. In your arms you carried all your favorite toys of the week: three bath toy trains, Mater, Lightning McQueen, your blue blankie, and water. Then you looked up at me and said, "Mama, I wanna cuddle."
I'm a worrier, so I have inevitably been worrying about how bedtime with you will go once your Baby Brother is here. Will you require me to read your bedtime books like you do now? Will you come into our room repeatedly after we lay you down and wake up the baby?
I have no idea what will happen, so I try remind myself I'll deal with it when it happens. But for now, I find your bedtime escapes the most adorable thing of all time. Especially when you tell me you want to cuddle with me.
