Our New (to us) Home

Are you ready for a tour of our new home? I took these photos the day that the home inspection was going on, so they aren't the greatest.  And I'm sure once I do an update/"after" photos, I'll wish I had taken them at different angles, but at the time I was just hoping to get some better photos of the house so my head could begin imagining what I wanted to do with the space.

This home is pretty much our dream home.  It's a two-story home built in the mid-70s.  There is a lot of work to be done, but that's actually what we wanted.  Two years ago we bought a brand new home, and while there are things I will miss about the newness of that home, we wanted a space we could update and have projects to work on.  What was more important to us this time was finding a dream neighborhood (along with being much closer to Beau's work).  Our old house was surrounded by two year old trees - aka, tiny.  This house is nearly 40 years old and is surrounded by large trees and a much larger yard than our previous home.  All of which we are very excited about.

But let's start inside.

Welcome to the front entry!  This was added on to the house at some point, but I'm not sure when.  Our inspector could tell by the added slab on the foundation.

On the left is the entrance to the living room.  Straight ahead is the stairs to the second story.

Here are a couple more photos from the front entry.  You can see the storage area below the stairs that the boys are already in love with.  And on the right photo, the kitchen is straight ahead.  The dining room is on the right and a small guest bathroom is on the left side of the hallway.

Walking into the living room from the entryway, you come to the fireplace.

And turning around, you can see the front entryway again.

Then with the fireplace to my right (out of the picture now), here's the rest of the living room.  It's quite long, so the far end will likely become a play area for the kids.

Moving further into the living room and turning around, you see a desk on the right.  The wall straight ahead is where we'll put the tv.  That end of the living room will be set up as the main living room area.

Turning left, you see the kitchen.  This kitchen was remodeled several years ago by the previous owners.  It's slightly awkward, but totally liveable.  We've been in the house for 4 days now and it's already growing on me.

There is a sliding door on the left that leads to the backyard patio.  The door on the far left is to the laundry room, which also has a door that leads to the patio and garage.

The window over the sink looks at the driveway.  You can barely see the doorway (behind where the fridge will go) that leads to the dining room.  And not pictured to the right is the hallway you saw from the entryway that leads to the kitchen.

Like I said earlier, these photos were taken while our home inspector was doing his job, so his stuff was in the kitchen and I ended up not taking great photos of the space.  But this is a view from the other side of the looong kitchen island.

The hallway is behind me, the living room is to the left and the rest of the kitchen is to the right.  The empty spot ahead is where the wine cooler goes.  For now the boys are loving it as a hiding spot.  And on the opposite side of the island is space for 4 barstools.

Another view of the kitchen, showing the doorway to the laundry room.

And from here you can better see the entryway to the dining room.

Here's the dining room, which we may use as an office/guest room/play area.  We aren't entirely sure yet.  But it's a good space.

A couple more views of the dining room from the hallway.  On the left is the doorway to the kitchen and on the right is a large window which looks towards the front yard and street.

And we've completed the circle of the first floor.  Time to go up the stairs.

The stairs are switch back and lead to all the bedrooms and two bathrooms.

This is Ephram's room.  A fairly good size and the window looks out to the front yard.

Going from Ephram's room to Alwyn's room, there is an odd build-in bookcase in the hallway.  I'm kind of in love with it.  I love the character of old homes.

The door on the left is to a storage closet.  The door next to the built-in bookcase is a linen closet.  The room down the hallway is the master bedroom.  And the door on the far right (barely shown) goes to the kid's bathroom.

Here is Alwyn's room (obviously a girl's room previously).  It's a square with two closets and his window looks over the covered backyard patio into the backyard.  The carpet in both bedrooms will be removed soon.

The kids' bathroom.  Could use some updating.  Especially the tub.

This will be our bedroom.  At first I wasn't sure I loved the build in bookcase and desk in the bedroom, but I think it may work out nicely.  We'll see.

The wall lamps will be coming down, and currently are the only light source in the room.

On the other side are two windows, and on the far right side is a door to the master bath.

Here's the master bath, walking in from the bedroom.  There are two pedestal sinks on the left and a walk in shower on the right.  The open door straight ahead is the toilet room and the closed door is my walk in closet.

With my back to the shower, this is another view of the sinks.  There's a desperate need for something in between for storage.  And that door leads back out to the bedroom.

I closed the door in this photo so you could see the build in cabinets, that I love!  The other door is a Beau's closet.

That pretty much does it for the inside, so let's move outside!

This is a view from the side of the yard, about halfway back, looking towards the covered patio.  The sliding door goes to the kitchen area and the set of windows on the right side of the house are the living room windows.  Beyond the patio is the garage.  To the left of the patio, in the sunny area, is a gravel area that the previous owners had a swing set.

This photo was taken outside the patio on the gravel area, looking out towards the yard.

In the same spot, turning a bit to the left, you can view inside the patio.  To the far left you can see a small walkway to get into the patio area.

And then walking into the covered patio area, you can  see the fireplace.  The garage is behind me and the house is obviously to the left.

And lastly, a photo of the patio taken with the sliding door to my back.  The door to the garage is open on the right side of the photo.

So that's the house!  We're so excited to make it ours and I'm sure I will share a few photos as it comes together.
